Samtskhe-Javakheti is one of the beautiful regions in Georgia. During this tour, you can visit Dashbashi canyon, Rabati castle, Khertvisi fortress, Green monastery, Vardzia, and Borjomi. Also, you will be able to take a dip in hot mineral water in Vardzia, have Barbecue and staying overnight in tents can also be organized.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 | Dashbashi - Tsalka - Algeti - Samtskhe-Javakheti - Vardzia

We will also visit Green monastery - The Chitakhevi church of Saint George is a medieval church in Georgia, located in the country's south-central Borjomi valley in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. It is popularly known as Mtsvane Monastery, that is, the Green Monastery. Abandoned for more than two hundred years, the monastery was restored to Christian use in 2003. It is a popular site of tourism and pilgrimage. The monastic church and bell-tower are inscribed on the list of the Immovable Cultural Monuments of National Significance of Georgia.

After that we will visit the center of Samtskhe-Javakheti region where is located well known old stone Rabat fortress, the main sight of the Akhaltsikhe town, which is standing on the small hill on the very shores of the Potskhovi river. Its name comes from Arabic meaning “fortified place”.

Later this day we will head towards town of Vardzia and we will check in the hotel in Vardzia

Day 2 | Vardzia - Tbilisi

We will see Vardzia – a cave monastery site, which was erected in the 12-13 centuries during the rule of George III and his daughter of Tamara for the purpose of the southern boundaries of Georgia protection. Vardzia is not just a set of random rooms cut in rocks, it is a multi-storied complex with streets, tunnels and stairs leading to monasteries, temples, fortresses, baths, libraries dwelling houses and so forth.

After visiting Vardzia we will head back to Tbilisi. On our way we will visit Khertvisi fortress – which is one of the oldest fortresses in Georgia and was functional throughout the Georgian feudal period. It is situated in Southern Georgia, in Meskheti region. The fortress was first built in the 2nd century BC. The church was built in 985, and the present walls were built in 1354. As the legend says, Khertvisi was destroyed by Alexander the Great.

We will also visit Green monastery – The Chitakhevi church of Saint George is a medieval church in Georgia, located in the country’s south-central Borjomi valley in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. En route we will walk in the town of Borjomi a resort town in south-central Georgia. The town is noted for its mineral water industry and we will taste this well-known Borjomi water.
