History and traditions

Archaeological excavations in Tusheti show its existence since ancient times. Some of the objects found here date back to the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages.
Traditionally, the Tushets are sheep breeders because of the excellent conditions for lambing. The Tusheti region is also famous for a special cheese called Guda cheese and high quality wool. In the past, cheese was exported to Europe, but even today, pasture and cattle breeding is the main source of income for Tusheti.
